Instacart

Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Working as a Senior ML Engineer at Instacart. I am working on 0-1 solutions for user retention and growth across the whole of Instacart. Growing the grocery delivery business is tricky as it's a 4 sided market place (user, shopper, store, and Instacart). With that comes intresting challenges. Currenlty working on how to optimize shopper experience by making their item picking time lower for multiple orders while keeping individual user experience consistent.

Twitter

Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Worked as a Senior ML Engineer at Twitter. I worked on end to end ML solutions in ranking and recommendations for the Tweet details page on twitter.com. Once you click on any tweet we rank and recommend the best content for the users to stay engaged in the platform. In particular, I devised a new ranking algorithm for logged out users and was pivotal in migrating data jobs from an internal tool to GCP Dataflow. My time at Twitter was cut short because of the untimely acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk.

Personalization on Bing.com

Software Engineer II, Microsoft

Our team transitioned into the "Personalization team". We slowly started building experiences where we give recommendations, results, and personalized content based on the user's personal history giving users reasons to sign in to Bing.com apart from rewards. This involved building a GDPR compliant platform, handling personalized data, building individual recommendation models. You can read a sample of my work here where we built a relevant history answer which shows a user relevant web links to the current search which the user has clicked on the past.

Mental health on Bing.com

Software Engineer II, Microsoft

For Microsoft's internal Hackathon 2019, we noticed that both Bing and Google was lacking a detailed answer for queries related to mental health conditions/suicide and hence, I spearheaded a team of 5 engineers to design a more compassionate answer for users which included useful resources such as tedX videos, books, and links to find support groups nearby. Our work was well received and is now shipped on both desktop and mobile for the US market.

Apps answer on Bing.com

Software Engineer, Microsoft

Popularly touted as the second best search engine, I decided to join Bing after I graduated from CMU. In my first year, all I could see was potential. The potential to grow things, do them uniquely and to not follow the search leader. My first project at Bing was to make apps and software (Windows 10) available to Bing users through a rich answer. My work focuses on programming a backend system which supports a Natural Language project based on Deep Learning models and Stanford’s CoreNLP. This was used to build an intelligent spelling and grammar corrector, Perfect Tense. The work made me familiar with programming in Scala and concepts such as Futures, threading, etc. This internship also taught me how to write readable and efficient code which focuses not just on the result but also impact and utility.
